Why I built this

As a regular shopper, I found myself wondering: how much am I actually spending each month? Which items do I buy most often? Are prices going up? Retailers provide digital receipts, but there is no easy way to analyze that data over time.

Worse, many retailers only let you access your purchase history for a limited time. Receipts from a few years ago? Gone. I built ReceiptsLab to solve both problems: give shoppers real analytics on their spending, and keep their receipt data available indefinitely.

It started as a personal project to track my own Costco spending, and grew into a multi-retailer analytics platform that anyone can use.

Privacy by design

Financial data is sensitive. That is why the free tier processes everything entirely in your browser using IndexedDB. Your receipt data never leaves your device. When analytics is enabled for a given deployment, ReceiptsLab uses a self-hosted, cookieless, anonymous analytics setup for aggregate product usage only, not third-party tracking or advertising.

The premium tier adds cloud storage for cross-device access, but even then, payment card numbers and member IDs are scrubbed before storage. Receipt contents, uploaded files, payment data, and personal identifiers are not sent to analytics. Essential authentication cookies remain separate from any cookieless analytics events. You can delete your account and all associated data at any time.
